OJHL BEGINS ROLLOUT OF VIDEO REVIEW PROGRAM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Video review to start with player development and marketing benefits league-wide
September 27, 2023, Mississauga, ON – ….  The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) announced that it is rolling out the first phase of its video review program this fall.
The program, the first of its kind at the Junior A level in Canada, was approved by the OJHL’s board of directors in June.
“Every OJHL team will have the ability to review in-game footage right on the bench and have access to in-game clips for team social media,” said Marty Savoy, OJHL Commissioner. “The ability for players and coaches to have access to this type of video for teaching and development purposes was an important part of the initiative. The platform also aligns with the league’s social media strategy by providing updated and fresh content for our teams in real time”.
Cameras are being installed above or behind goal nets in all OJHL arenas over the next four weeks. They are expected to be operational by November.
The OJHL will be experimenting with the setup for video review, which will be introduced at a later date at the recommendation of the OJHL Competition Committee. Teams will immediately be able to use the technology for player development purposes, including on the bench during games for instruction and strategy. Video from the goal review cameras as well as the main webcasts feed will be integrated for simultaneous review from all camera angles, which will be available to coaching staffs.
Additionally, teams will have marketing and social media benefits, with access to video clips during live streaming on the Sporfie cloud-based platform. They can clip and post immediately during the play.
The use of the technology for video review is expected to begin in early November 2023 once all teams have the infrastructure and testing completed.
